The Importance of Health Insurance When Fighting Cancer

If you are fighting cancer, then you have probably been told by your health care professionals to reduce or eliminate as much stress from your life as possible. Stress can actually interfere with the body’s natural healing processes, and this is something you do not need during this time.

Having sufficient health insurance can go a long way toward alleviating or diminishing stress during your cancer fight. When you have good coverage, your doctor visits, treatments, and medications are paid for, either totally or partially. Either way, any payment is welcome when it comes to fighting cancer.

If you already have health insurance, you may want to look into getting additional coverage. Many health insurance providers offer “cancer policies” that are separate from the regular health insurance policy. There are also insurance companies that offer “cancer coverage”. Both of these policies are designed to provide coverage for expenses over and above what your regular health insurance policy pays. Some cover cancer as well as other terminal illnesses.

You can get online insurance quotes on additional cancer coverage, whether it’s through your regular health insurance carrier or through another insurance carrier. Even if your regular insurance carrier provides an additional cancer policy, you may have to pay for it yourself, so getting quotes can be quite valuable.

If you do not have health insurance, you must be honest with yourself and realize that it may be hard to find insurance coverage. However, this does not mean it is impossible. You may have to pay a higher premium, and coverage may be limited in some areas, but you will probably be able to find something.

Don’t be discouraged; just get as many online insurance quotes as you possibly can. Go ahead and get information on minimal and maximum coverage benefits while you are at it, as this will help you make a more informed decision.

Surviving Treatment to Treatment

Cancer. The very word can make one shudder. The thought of having that demon in your body somewhere is a paralyzing idea. We would be hard pressed to speak to someone who has not been touched by cancer in their lives at some time, and unfortunately many, many people who are experiencing the disease first hand. No matter where the cancer decides to attack, the treatments are difficult at best. Once the patient hears the word “cancer” a whole new life cycle begins. A cycle that consists of doctors, hospitals, consultations, treatments and tests, and tests, and more treatments, and more tests, and hopefully somewhere down the line, success in treatment.

While the medical community is working feverishly to combat cancer, what they have to offer is treatment. It has been said by some cancer patients that the treatment is sometimes worse than the disease. It is very difficult to see an ending, at least a happy ending. We are in an age where our technology is second to none. There are new treatments and new studies coming out daily. These studies are encouraging and give hope to groups of people who desperately need it.

Surviving the treatments is an art form within itself. There is nothing you can do about your hair falling out, or the fact that after a treatment you feel as though you are throwing up your toenail polish. However, there are ways to help you through. Physicians can offer you pain medication, as cancer can sometimes be unbearably painful. The doctors can also help you with the nausea, there are medications for that as well. Getting a lot of rest during treatments and keeping your body as healthy as possible are ways that the patient can help their own bodies on the road to recovery. The strides made in cancer research are amazing, but the true heroes are those just surviving the ride.

The Think System

Cancer has been diagnosed. Your head is spinning, what with caustic treatments, insurance issues and just the thought of having to change your life completely to deal with cancer. You are immediately put on the medicine track. You are being sent to the proper cancer doctors, getting a more precise diagnose and planning a treatment course to fight the monster known as cancer. You know there is going to be a fight. You know there are times when you think you may not win. You are determined to make sure that you do win. You do everything the doctors tell you. You go to every treatment, take every pill, lose every hair, start to get sick regularly, and begin to feel the fight cannot be won.

It is just as important to believe that you can win the fight as it is to fight the fight itself. There are times in every cancer treatment, when you cannot get out of bed you are so sick, when you cannot see a light at the end of the tunnel. You have to believe there is one. Unfortunately there is no magic pill for that. There is no one and nothing that will make you believe you are going to win the fight. That comes from within.

There is a growing movement that meditation can help. Placing your mind in a state of less chaos, a state of more control over things and channeling your inner energy to helping the treatments work for you, or even just talking yourself out of being so sick, can work wonders for your emotional well being during these difficult times. The medicine is an important part of your treatment. Your body needs help to fight this aggressive disease. Your mind needs help to. You may have to convince yourself every single day to get up and fight and meditation just might be that help you need to stay on track.

Risks High When Ovaries Removed During Hysterectomies

A recent study presents facts that routine removal of the ovaries during a hysterectomy may longer be justifiable. This was a common practice that studies now indicate may pose as many risks as it does benefits.

In the United States there are about 600,000 hysterectomies performed each year and approximately half of those procedures include the removal of the ovaries. The reason for this removal is to prevent cancer of the ovaries.

However, the evidence against the removal of the ovaries is growing. In fact, some studies suggest that the procedure can put women at a higher risk for stroke, heart disease and other age-related conditions.

Even after menopause, ovaries continue to produce important hormones that may actually protect women’s health. The studies say that there have been no trials that examined benefits and risks of the ovarian removal.

The study says that more data is needed, and that the current evidence should not be used to support the high rate of ovarian removals. The study concludes that there is a need for much more research in this area to see of the removal of the ovaries is actually justified.

On the other hand, women who are at risk for ovarian cancer, such as those with a family history or a genetic situation will actually benefit from the removal of the ovaries. However, the majority of women do not fall into either category.

In addition to creating a higher risk for women to develop stroke and heart disease, it was found that the younger the woman was when her ovaries were removed, the high the risk for developing heart disease. Additionally other clinical studies say that if a woman’s ovaries are removed pre-menopause; she is at a high risk for dementia and Parkinson’s disease later in life.

Managing Borderline Personality Disorder

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a very challenging and complex mental health issue that impacts not only the sufferer but everyone around them. A person with clinically diagnosed BPD runs the gamut of emotional stress points from low self-esteem to fear of being abandoned to depression and suicidal thoughts. Often people who find themselves in the throes of BPD are also dealing with other types of mental health issues like anxiety, substances abuse or other addictive behavior patterns. Fortunately, there are many options available with therapy and courses of prescribed medications that can help bring BPD under control.

For people diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder there are many forms of valuable therapy options. Cognitive-behavioral therapy zeroes in on the destructive behavior patterns and strives to understand the thinking process that leads to them. Dialectical behavior therapy builds on the cognitive work by helping the sufferer develop new coping mechanisms to manage the destructive thoughts and actions. Psychodynamic therapy is the digging deep into the subconscious to unlock possible causes for BPD that a patient might not even be aware of. Once those issues are brought to the surface they can be properly dealt with.

Along with therapy, there have been many success stories achieved with medications to treat BPD. Antidepressants are the most commonly prescribed types of drugs to help a BPD patient. In more extreme cases, intense mood stabilizers or antipsychotic drugs can be administered.

Beyond the drug therapies there is also a common sense approach to managing Borderline Personality Disorder. Among these steps are making sure the sufferer adheres to a healthy diet and exercise program. It’s also vital to avoid mood altering substances that can provoke a downward turn in the recovery process. And no major decisions like moving or changing jobs should be made until the BPD is brought under control. As with other types of mental health issues, the first step is asking for help. No one should be alone on these types of journeys.
